The singer Connie Francis (* 1938) has been releasing records with the MGM record company since 1955 and had already placed six titles in the top 10 before My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own .

production

Connie Francis' song My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own was produced in several versions at the studios of Radio Recorders in Hollywood under the direction of Jesse Kaye and Arnold Maxin. The first recording was made on July 9, 1960, but remained unpublished. The next production took place on July 25th, when some background musicians were changed. There was a third attempt on July 31, when the studio band was replaced by the Gus Levene orchestra. MGM first decided on the third version and released My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own in August 1960 on the single No. 12923 (back: Malagueña ). Two weeks later, after the intervention of Connie Francis and Jack Keller, a reprint with the July 25th version was released.

Cover versions

Cover version
by Siw Malmkvist

For a long time there was no cover version of My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own in the USA . It was not until 1971 that country singer Connie Smith released a long-playing record with the same title and track. Anders appeared in 1960 cover versions in Great Britain and Germany. In the UK, Jean Campbell, known for producing new recordings, released a single with the original lyrics by Greenfield. In Germany, Ralph Maria Siegel wrote two German texts. The first title My Heart Knows Exactly What It Wants was meant for Connie Francis. Although it was produced in Hollywood on October 18, 1960, it was not initially released. It only appeared in 2002 as a track on the compact disc of the same name with Connie Francis in Germany. After Siegel could not initially find a buyer for his text, he wrote a second version with the title As it was then . For this text, three producers were immediately found who made recordings with Gina Dobra ( Polydor ), Nana Gualdi ( Philips ) and Siw Malmkvist in October 1960 . The Austrian record company Austroton followed suit with Trixie Kühn in early 1961 . None of the German cover versions reached the hit lists.
