Linas Balsys

Linas Balsys (born May 1, 1961 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian journalist and politician .

Life

After graduating from the 23rd Vilnius Middle School in 1979, Balsys graduated from the Vilniaus universitetas (VU) with a degree in journalism in 1984 . From 1982 he worked at Lietuvos radijas and from 1986 at Lietuvos televizija as a presenter, from 1997 on the first Lithuanian private radio station "M-1 Plius". From 2009 to 2011 he was press spokesman for the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and from 2011 taught at the communication faculty of VU. In 2011 he founded the Institute for Green Politics and the Green Party of Lithuania of which he is the party leader. He ran as an independent candidate in the parliamentary elections in Lithuania in 2012 and won the direct mandate in his constituency. Since then he has been a member of the Seimas .
