Lincoln is a town in the Selwyn District in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand .

The place is on the edge of the Canterbury Plains west of the Banks Peninsula , around 20 km southwest of Christchurch . At the census in 2013, the place had 3924 inhabitants.
history
Lincoln was a railway junction on the Southbridge Branch Railway, built in 1875 . The line was closed in 1962.
education
The place is home to Lincoln University , which is considered the third oldest university in the country.
