The Linde natural monument stood on the grounds of the Protestant St. Vitus Church in Weimersheim , a district of Weißenburg in Bavaria , at an altitude of 456 meters above sea level . The tree was a summer linden tree with a chest height of 7.31 meters and a height of 26 meters. The estimated age was 300 years.

Due to a fungal attack, the tree was hollowed out inside, which is why the linden tree was increasingly a danger due to falling branches. The tree therefore had to be felled in mid-January 2018, which aroused criticism from conservationists.
