The Lingner-Werke were owned by Karl August Lingner in Dresden. A well-known product of the works was Odol , another Sepso tincture .

history

Founding time

In 1888, the young chemist Karl August Lingner founded a small business for household items together with a befriended entrepreneur on Wölfnitzstraße 16 (today No. 11). Initially, articles for everyday use were produced, and Lingner also devoted himself to various experiments. In 1892 the company was renamed "Chemical Laboratory".

The discovery of Odol

In the same year, Lingner succeeded in developing a hitherto completely unknown cosmetic product: the "tooth oil" used for dental and oral care was given the name " Odol " and made Lingner a rich man within a few years. Due to the increasing demand, Lingner acquired a plot of land at Zwickauer Strasse No. 2-4 in 1897; production was relocated here. From 1909 he also ran his own serum factory .

After Lingner's death

Karl August Lingner died in 1916; his successors continued the work until 1945. The aftershave “ Pitralon ” was a great success in 1919 and 1927 . The main building fell victim to the bombing raids in 1945 ; Lingner's heirs then moved the company to Bühl, where Odol water was still produced, now under the name "Lingner & Fischer". During the GDR era, the company was continued in the Dresden VEB Elbe-Chemie; today it belongs to the GlaxoSmithCline group.
