History and production process

Line Aquavit is stored in former sherry barrels made of oak and matures for 19 weeks on ships that cross the equator (line). There are several legends surrounding the discovery of this ripening method. Legend has it that some barrels of aquavit were shipped overseas in 1805 and accidentally returned to Norway months or years later, although the details described are contradictory. In any case, when tasting the return, they were surprised to find that this aquavit now tasted significantly milder and finer than before departure. This was attributed to the constant movement of the barrels, the sea air and the temperature fluctuations on the long sea voyage. What is certain is that Jørgen B. Lysholm founded a distillery near Trondheim in 1821 , and since the late 1830s ships that brought dried cod to South America also had aquavit casks on board. Lysholm Line quickly became the company's most successful brand. In contrast to what is usual in Germany, for example, Linie Aquavit is drunk at room temperature in its country of origin, Norway, so that, according to the consumers there, the taste can develop better.
