background

The precisely defined goals are:

  • the research, collection, processing, archiving and indexing of all kinds of materials on the history of local public transport in Düsseldorf , the neighboring cities and communities in accordance with the operating area of Rheinbahn AG
  • creating and displaying documents, issuing publications and organizing exhibitions,
  • the acquisition of own vehicles,
  • the restoration and maintenance of historic vehicles,
  • the construction of models and the establishment of model systems for the presentation of historical local transport in Düsseldorf ,
  • the construction of a local transport museum, in which the vehicles and documents can be permanently exhibited and maintained, combined with regular use of the vehicles in the rail network of Rheinbahn AG
  • maintaining contacts and working with similar institutions in other cities to fulfill the purpose of the association.

The members are involved in the working groups vehicle maintenance, archive / documentation and model making.

Another field of activity are regular city tours with historical vehicles in cooperation with Rheinbahn AG , for which "Line D" provides drivers, train attendants and city explorers.

The club's name is based on the tradition of using letters to designate long-distance lines from Düsseldorf . Line "D" used to be the line to Duisburg ( Düsseldorf-Duisburger Kleinbahn , today U79 ). The "D" is also a common abbreviation for Düsseldorf.
