from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Link 22 is a NATO communication standard for data transmission over data links between military units.

history

The development of Link 22 began in 1992 under the name NATO Improved Link Eleven (NILE) with the aim of replacing the technologically no longer current but still used standard Link 11 ; it should be compatible with Link 16 networks . The participating NATO members are Canada , France , Germany , Italy , Spain , Great Britain and the USA .

In December 2006, Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 81 began testing interoperability .

technology

Link 22 transmits the data in fixed formatted 9 byte long datagrams, the format is compatible with that of Link 16 . As with Link 16, TDMA protocols are used for channel access . Link 22 can transmit data over HF and UHF frequencies. UHF is for connections in the short range (line of sight) and HF connections are intended for transmissions up to over 1850 km.
