Lipót Aschner

Lipót Aschner (born January 27, 1872 in Nové Sady (Slovakia) (Assakürt), † February 6, 1952 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian industrialist.

In 1896 he started with the newly formed United Hungarian Electricity Company , which ten years later was renamed United Incandescent Lamps and Electricity Company and in 1909 the trademark Tungsram was signed.

Aschner carried out cost analyzes and profitability calculations, which contributed to competitive production, and in 1918 he became general manager of the factory.

In 1922 he founded the first industrial research laboratory in the country, based on the model of the first industrial research laboratory at General Electric, which remained the only one for a long time. Ignácz Pfeifer became its director .

Aschner also played a major role in organizing the international light bulb cartel Phoebus Cartel , of which he was vice-president and president several times.

After the German invasion, the Gestapo took him to Mauthausen concentration camp . He came to Switzerland through a prisoner exchange and a lot of money. After the war, at the request of the Hungarian government, he again became director general of the factory.
