List of occidental buildings with round arched rib vaults
Rib vaults can be found, apart from domes of Islamic architecture and derived therefrom in the Mudejar style , especially in Gothic architecture . Because of the structural advantages of the pointed arched ribbed vaults, a large number of otherwise Romanesque buildings were completed or retrofitted with such vaults, which are actually typical of the Gothic period.
However, there are also some structures with round arched rib vaults . Sometimes they were built this way because they wanted to use the advantages of rib vaults, but preferred Romanesque forms, while elsewhere they were already building Gothic, sometimes older buildings were added (subsequent vaulting) or repaired, but avoided a style break.
This list is not intended to include works of historicism. Although it began with church buildings, it should also be open to other buildings.
