This list shows all the Mayor of Newark in the US state of New Jersey on since the official incorporation of the city in the 1836th Any other people at the top of Newark who operated before 1836 are not listed here. Newark was officially founded in 1666, became a township on October 31, 1693 and became an official parish on February 21, 1798 as part of a legal treatment of the New Jersey Legislature , before the place was granted city rights in 1836.

The respective term of office lasts four years, the elections are impartial and are held on the second Tuesday in May.

The incumbent mayor is Ras J. Baraka , born in 1970 , who officially took office on July 1, 2014.

The longest-serving mayor was Sharpe James , who was in office from 1986 to 2006, followed by his predecessor Kenneth A. Gibson (1970-1986).
