List of honorary citizens of Poing

The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the Upper Bavarian municipality of Poing can forgive. According to the municipal regulations for the Free State of Bavaria, the municipality can appoint honorary citizens who have made a special contribution to them.

Eight people have been made honorary citizens since 1954 (they are listed chronologically according to the date of award).

The honorary citizens of the municipality of Poing

  1. Karl Sittler (born July 20, 1892 - † February 26, 1982)
    Teacher
    Awarded in 1954
    Sittler was from December 29, 1938 to September 30, 1954 the main teacher and headmaster of the Poing elementary school.
  2. Wilhelm Zorn (born August 12, 1884 - † November 13, 1968)
    Animal breeding scientist
    Awarded in 1964
    Zorn was director of the Bavarian State Institute for Animal Breeding in Grub from 1947 to 1954.
  3. Ludwig Germeier (born August 3, 1894 - † November 24, 1973)
    mayor
    Awarded in 1966
    Germeier was first mayor of Poing from June 1945 after the end of the Second World War. He remained in office until April 30, 1966. On the occasion of his farewell, he was made an honorary citizen for his services.
  4. Johann Deffner (born November 15, 1913 - † July 28, 1993)
    Former Mayor
    Awarded in 1982
    Deffner was first mayor from May 1, 1960 to April 30, 1966, then Mayor from May 1, 1966 to April 30, 1982. When he left, the community honored his services with the award of honorary citizenship.
  5. Anni Pickert (February 17, 1919 - January 11, 2006)
    Rector
    Awarded in 1984
    Pickert was the deputy headmistress of the Poingen school from 1947 to 1967 and its principal from 1967 to 1981.
  6. Jakob Geißel (born October 20, 1911 - † October 25, 1992)
    Municipal council
    Awarded in 1988
    Scourge was a member of the local council from May 1, 1960 to May 5, 1988. On the occasion of his departure, he was given honorary citizenship of the community.
  7. Christa Stewens (born August 27, 1945)

    Awarded in 2010
    Local councilor, CSU parliamentary group leader and deputy mayor.
  8. Wolfgang Schubert (born August 4, 1937)
    Deputy Association Council and Association Council
    Awarded in 2010
    City council member from 1978 to 2009
    Founding member of the allotment garden on Bergfeld
    Chairman of the Workers' Welfare Committee from 1988 to 2011
    Co-founder of the Friends of the Poinger Seniors Center since 1997
    Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit 2008
