| Jenny is assigned to take care of Joe Collett's open legs as part of community nursing. At first, appalled and repulsed by the lonely old man's living conditions, Jenny befriends him. In addition, an old childhood friend, Jimmy, turns up who needs Jenny's help and sleeps in the boiler room unnoticed by the nuns. Trixie and Cynthia look after Mrs. Lawson, who would prefer not to have her baby at all, while her husband is very much looking forward to the first child. | Jenny and the midwifery team are looking for Gillian, Shirley and Ron's newborn baby who was kidnapped from the stroller. Jenny finds the baby with Mary, the young Irish woman whose baby was forcibly removed. Cynthia helps David Jones, who is losing his child and wife to eclampsia . | Peggy, who cleans the monastery, reports that her brother Frank is very ill. After some research, it turns out that Frank is terminally ill with cancer. Jenny tries to help and discovers that Peggy and Frank are much more than just siblings. Fred, the caretaker, has meanwhile bought a pig that turns out to be pregnant. | Sister Monica Joan is found disoriented in her nightgown on the docks and develops pneumonia. Chummy receives a visit from her snobbish mother, who disagrees with either her daughter's lifestyle or her potential son-in-law. Sister Monica Joan is suspected of theft, Jenny and Jimmy investigate a clue that could exonerate the old woman. In addition, Jenny decides whether her heart is still attached to a man she cannot have, or whether she can now look to the future freely and independently. | When Jenny Lee leaves a house after giving birth, she meets the old, neglected Mrs. Jenkins on the street, whom the nuns and Jenny care from now on. The midwife researches the fate of the old lady in the city archives and tries to give her a little peace. Meanwhile, Chummy organizes the nativity play in the parish hall, which is getting bigger every day. Lynette, a young girl whose brothers are taking part in the nativity play, is pregnant unnoticed by everyone and one night gives birth to a boy alone in an empty house. She abandons the baby on the steps of the monastery. The residents of the Nonnatus house look after the little boy and try to find the mother. | |||||||

| Dr. Turner's newly introduced laughing gas turns out to be a hit with labor mothers. Jenny Lee takes care of Molly, who is expecting her second child and who is married to an abusive man. Molly doesn't want to let go of her husband and Jenny can't help her end the relationship. After the baby is born, Molly blocks all attempts to help. | Cynthia accompanies a trouble-free birth, but on a follow-up examination the baby lies dead in bed. When the police start investigating Cynthia, she collapses during an operation and abandons the woman giving birth. When the autopsy rules out a mistake Cynthia has, she regains her confidence. | Trixie and sister Bernadette help together with Dr. Turner Mave Carter's twins were born. The birth is not easy and Mave's twin sister Meg is very skeptical of outside help. Jenny Lee is ordered to the hospital and has to work in the men's surgical ward there. There she meets Jimmy, who has a stomach ache, but is released anyway. | Jenny Lee meets Nora Harding during the consultation, who is 9 times pregnant and does not want to have the baby. Cynthia tries to introduce the choleric diabetic Mr. Lacey to insulin and a healthy lifestyle and to make his wife's life a little more comfortable. Sister Bernadette, who is housed in a sanatorium, worries about Dr. Turner and their future. Fred buys a scooter and gives the midwives theoretical driving lessons.
