from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of early Christian archaeologists at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität includes all university lecturers who taught and teach Christian archeology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster .

Christian archeology is represented in three faculties at the University of Münster. The first thing that was established at the Catholic Theological Faculty in 1912 was an Extraordinate for General History of Religions and Comparative Religious Studies , which in 1918 became the Chair for Ancient Church History, Christian Archeology and General History of Religions . The first holder of these professorships was Franz Joseph Dölger . The chair exists to this day, but most of the holders only deal with the church-historical aspects of the chair. Since 1947 the subject has also been taught at the Protestant theological faculty in connection with the older church history, but mostly only represented by lecturers or lecturers. Only Peter Maser taught as an adjunct professor for 15 years from 1993. In the Faculty of Philosophy, a professorship for Classical Archeology was established in 1962 as part of the Institute for Classical Archeology, with special emphasis on late antiquity , and was represented for the first time by Josef Fink . During the tenure of his successor Hugo Brandenburg , early Christian archeology became an independent subject in 1993 , and since 1997 as late antiquity / early Christian archeology . There is particularly close cooperation between the Evangelical Theological Faculty and the Philosophical Faculty, which is also regulated by contract. After Dieter Korol retired in 2017, the professorship was canceled.

The first column shows the name of the person and their life data, the second column shows entry into the university, and the third column shows their departure. Column four lists the highest position achieved at the Westphalian Wilhelms University. At other universities, the corresponding lecturer may have made an even more extensive scientific career. The next column lists special features, the career path or other information relating to the university or institute. The last column shows pictures of the lecturers, which is currently difficult due to the image rights.
