Dieter Korol

Dieter Korol (born December 17, 1951 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German Christian archaeologist .

Korol has been studying Christian archeology, classical archeology and ancient history at the universities of Freiburg and Bonn since the 1972 summer semester , where he received his doctorate in 1983 under Josef Engemann . From 1984 to 1996 he was a research assistant at the Franz Joseph Dölger Institute in Bonn. In addition, from 1985 to 1992 he held a teaching position at the Christian Archaeological Seminar at the University of Bonn. In 1994 he completed his habilitation in Christian archeology at the University of Heidelberg . From 1996 he taught as Professor of Christian Archeology at the Institute for Classical Archeology and Christian Archeology at the University of Münster . In 2017 he retired and received the title of "Senior Professor".

Since his dissertation, Korol has been working on the early Christian pilgrimage shrine of Cimitile / Nola . He continues to research z. Currently together with Achim Arbeiter on the mosaics of the Villa von Centcelles as well as on the late antique apse building with wall paintings under the Gallus Chapel in Augsburg .
