Hans Wiegartz
Hans Wiegartz (born January 23, 1936 in Pirschütz, today Pieruszyce, Czermin municipality , † March 27, 2008 in Münster ) was a German classical archaeologist .
Wiegartz studied Classical Archeology and Classical Philology at the University of Marburg since 1956 . In 1962 he received his doctorate from Friedrich Matz with a thesis on columnar sarcophagi from Asia Minor , which is still a fundamental work on this type of monument to this day. In 1963/64 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . He then worked until 1974 as a research assistant at the Corpus of Ancient Sarcophagi in Marburg, where he researched the Attic sarcophagi. In 1974 he completed his habilitation in Marburg with a thesis on the imperial sarcophagi from the Nikolaus church in Myra. 1975–1978 he was professor of classical archeology at the Technical University of Berlin , from 1978 to 2001 he was professor of classical archeology at the University of Münster .
