Torsten Mattern

Torsten Mattern (born August 30, 1966 in Minden ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Mattern received his doctorate in 1997 with Hans Wiegartz at the University of Münster with a thesis on urban Roman building elements. From 1998 to 2009 he worked at the University of Marburg . In 2004 he completed his habilitation there with a thesis on Hellenistic sacred architecture. Since the winter semester 2009/2010 he has held a professorship (successor to Günter Grimm ) at the University of Trier . He has been a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute since the end of 2015 .

Mattern's research focuses on ancient architectural history, building research and archaeological regional studies. From 2000 he led excavations in Kleonai in the Peloponnese ; he was also involved in excavations on the Kerameikos in Athens and in Theisoa in the Peloponnese. He is currently researching Roman finds in Haltern an der Lippe .
