Annalis Leibundgut

Annalis Leibundgut-Maye (born June 27, 1932 in Langenthal , Canton of Bern ; † September 13, 2014 ) was a Swiss classical archaeologist .

Annalis Leibundgut received her doctorate in 1969 under Hans Jucker at the University of Bern . Between 1969 and 1975 she was a research fellow of the Swiss National Science Foundation for archaeological excavations in Egypt . In 1975 she switched to the University of Trier as a research assistant , where she also qualified as a professor in 1978. In 1980 Leibundgut was appointed to a temporary C2 professorship in Trier, which was converted into a C2 professorship for life in 1986. In 1987 she moved to a C3 professorship at the University of Mainz , where she taught until her retirement in 1997 and beyond.

Leibundgut dealt with Greek and Roman art, in particular the history of research , collection and reception , ancient handicrafts and Coptic art , especially Coptic painting. Her work The Roman Bronzes of Switzerland and the Roman Lamps of Switzerland , in which she fundamentally worked on certain groups of finds from Swiss sites, are of particular importance . In Coptic painting, her focus was on painting the church of Complex 366 in Kellia . The center of research on the history of reception is the Apollo Belvedere . Leibundgut co-initiated the Collaborative Research Center for Cultural and Linguistic Contacts in the historical area of ​​North Africa / West Asia of the DFG at the University of Mainz and remained connected to it as a researcher even after leaving teaching until the end of 2008. She was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .
