List of the secret bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Albania

Enver Hoxha , the communist partisan leader , proclaimed the People's Republic in 1946 . In 1967 Hoxha proclaimed Albania the first atheist state in the world, and religious practice was forbidden. Only after the fall of the system in 1990 were there openings to the west. Today Albania is a " secular republic".
