Nikollë Troshani

Nikollë Troshani (born May 14, 1915 in Troshan , † May 25, 1994 in Tirana ) was an Albanian Roman Catholic clergyman and apostolic administrator of Durrës .

Life

Nikollë Troshani attended the Small Seminary of the Jesuits in Shkodra . Troshani then studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Padua . He received on 8 March 1941, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Nikollë Troshani then worked as a pastor in Kallmet and Zejmen . After Albania became a communist state, Troshani was arrested on August 31, 1946 and sentenced to twelve years in prison for alleged spying for the Vatican . After his release in 1958 he was active again as a pastor in the mountains of Vela.

On April 18, 1958, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Cisamus and Apostolic Administrator of Durres. The Apostolic Administrator of Shkodra , Ernest Çoba , donated him episcopal ordination on March 25, 1959 . After all religious practice was banned in 1967 and Albania officially became an atheist state, Nikollë Troshani had to flee Vela and hid with a cousin in Shkodra. Troshani was arrested and tortured again on November 12, 1972 by the Sigurimi . This was followed by a sentence of 15 years in prison, which he served in Vlora . He was released on January 13, 1986.

Nikollë Troshani was the only Catholic bishop who survived the communist tyranny in Albania.

In 1991 Pope John Paul II accepted Nikollë Troshani’s resignation due to reasons of age.
