Phare de Goulphar or Grand Phare de Kervilahouen is the name of a lighthouse in the municipality of Bangor in the Morbihan department on the island of Belle-Île-en-Mer .
It can be visited and offers a wide view over the Belle-Île and on the horizon from the Le Croisic peninsula to the city of Lorient . It has a range of 27 nautical miles .
description
The granite tower of Goulphar, together with its outbuildings, represents a stately ensemble of buildings . The built-in Fresnel lens was driven by a weight that hung in the spiral staircase . To ensure continuous rotation, this had to be pulled up several times per night.
The lighthouse was built between 1826 and 1833 according to plans by Augustin Jean Fresnel and commissioned in January 1836. The entire ensemble was recorded on June 12, 1995 as Monument historique .
