Worth mentioning
In 1673 the Dutch conquered the province of New York , which had been lost in 1664 , including the area of what is now the state of New Jersey, from the British. These provinces were then given the name Nieuw Nederland again . The first and only governor of the colony, established in 1673, was Anthony Colve . He held this office between September 19, 1673 and February 9, 1674. During this time, New York City was renamed New Orange . The Peace of Westminster in 1674 ended Dutch rule in this region for good, after which the area was returned to the British, who subsequently retained it until American independence . Colve is added to the list of governors of the province of New York .
