List of the kings of Strathclyde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of the Kings of Strathclyde includes the rulers of Alt Clut (later Strathclyde ), a kingdom in southwest Scotland .

The kingdom was ruled from Dumbarton Rock (British: Alt Clut, now Dumbarton ). Around 870, after the conquest of Dublin by the Vikings , the capital was moved to Govan (now a district of Glasgow ). After that the kingdom was known as Strathclyde or Cumbria. It also included parts of Cumbria in England in the 10th and 11th centuries and was an area dependent on Scotland, albeit with its own jurisdiction. It was not until the 12th century that Strathclyde was fully integrated into the Scottish state .
