Waterworks I Wurzen (waterworks (with technical equipment, well, emergency power generator and bridge crane) and fencing) | Am Wasserwerk 7 (map) |
1892-1893 | Brick construction, important for the local history and supply history, pump and well house: single-storey brick building with a flat saddle roof, four × four axes, two openings for doors, one door has been preserved in its original form, arched windows are subdivided several times, round fountain lined with bricks, emergency power generator / diesel engine from the SKL company , Magdeburg-Buckau, bridge crane and pressure equalization opening outside the building.
History The water lift was built in 1892 and went into operation in 1894. It replaced the Tonneborn, which had been in operation since the 15th century and supplied the town of Wurzen with spring water. In the newly built plant, steam-powered piston pumps raised groundwater and directed it via a widely branched network of pipelines (1903 21 km) into the water tower built in 1893 (Clara-Zetkin-Strasse 8, in operation until 1992), which served as a storage facility. At the same time, the water master's house was built at the waterworks. The factory was modernized by 1930 and the old pumps were replaced by two vertical deep well centrifugal pumps with electric drives. In 1936, due to the insufficient flow rate, a new well was sunk 250 m south of the plant. From 1949 the plant was owned by the municipality. In the same year a second waterworks (waterworks II) with four drilling and collecting wells was built in the area of the Mulde due to insufficient delivery. In 1993/94 the first waterworks received a denitrification system due to poor water values. |
