The Volvo XC40 is a compact SUV from the Swedish car brand Volvo . The vehicle is placed under the XC60 and XC90 SUVs, making it the brand's smallest SUV.
history
As early as May 2016, the manufacturer showed a first preview of the XC40 with the design study Volvo Concept Car 40.1 . The production version was presented in Milan on September 21, 2017 , and has been built in the Belgian plant of Volvo Cars Gent N.V. and in Luqiao in China since the end of 2017 . The base model followed in spring 2018. The market launch for the XC40 was scheduled for March 10, 2018.
In 2018, the Volvo XC40 became the second SUV ever to win the European Car of the Year award after the second generation of the Peugeot 3008 last year . In 2018 it also won the "Women's Car of the Year" and "Family Car of the Year 2018" awards.
On October 16, 2019, Volvo presented the XC40 Recharge, a battery-electric version of the vehicle with the drive train from the Polestar 2 . The recharge is to be delivered from autumn 2020, according to WLTP its range should be around 400 kilometers, the battery should provide 78 kilowatt hours . As operating system is Android Automotive OS from Google planned.
technology
The SUV is the first vehicle from Volvo that is based on the modular CMA ( Compact Modular Architecture ) platform , which is also used by the Chinese parent company Geely . Other models based on the new platform are the Lynk & Co 01 , the Geely Xingyue or the Polestar 2. The XC40 takes over the infotainment system with the upright touchscreen in the center console from the larger models.
Equipment lines
In Germany, the equipment lines XC40 Basis (basic equipment), XC40 Momentum, XC40 R-Design and XC40 Inscription are offered.
The XC40 is the first Volvo to have a private car sharing function. Family members can open and start the SUV using an app.
Technical specifications
At the market launch, either a 182 kW (247 PS) two-liter gasoline engine or a 140 kW (190 PS) two-liter diesel engine will drive the car. Both variants have all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Geartronic in common. In spring 2018, a three-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters and 114 kW (156 hp) and a four-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of two liters and 110 kW (150 hp) followed. In the basic version, these have front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission . A plug-in hybrid followed in September 2019 , which is also used in the Lynk & Co 01. In May 2020, a weaker version was added.
