The Volvo PV 800 series (colloquially also Volvo Suggan (dt .: Sau )) was a series of taxi models that were built by Volvo from 1938 to 1958 . The nickname indicated either the rounded shape of the car or its ability to rummage through anywhere. The "Suggan" dominated the Swedish taxi market in the 1940s and 1950s.

The PV 801 (with partition and rear seat) and the PV 802 (without partition) were introduced in 1938 as successors to the TR 701–704 models. The chassis and superstructures were completely new, only the engine was carried over from the previous models. The front end was also used by Volvo's smallest commercial vehicle, the LV 100 .
The PV 802 could also be used as an emergency ambulance. After folding all the seats to the right, a stretcher could be loaded through the trunk lid. Volvo continued to build chassis, which were often used as the basis for real ambulance vehicles.
During World War II , Volvo built a four -wheel drive off - road vehicle called Terrängpersonvagn m / 43 (TPV) for the Swedish armed forces . The mechanics came from the brand's small commercial vehicles, the body came from the "Suggan".

In the autumn of 1950, the taxi models were given a new front that corresponded to that of the PV 444 model and the L 340 pick-up truck . The cars were now called PV831 and PV832 . In 1953 it was possible to order the car with front independent wheel suspension upon request . In the same year the luxury version Dispatcher was released.
At the end of the 1950s, the "Suggan" was pretty outdated. Volvo was planning a successor, Project P 358 , a large car with a V8 engine. However, these plans were not implemented and so Volvo's involvement in the taxi market ended in 1958 with the end of the PV 800 series. The recently launched Amazon was too small to be used as a taxi and the next, larger Model 144 didn't arrive until almost 10 years later.
In 1953, Volvo introduced the all-wheel-drive Raptgb 915 (military name), TP 21 / P 2104, as the successor to the TPV for the armed forces . It was powered by the tried and tested six-cylinder in-line engine with a capacity of 3670 cm³ and 90 hp (66 kW) and had the Volvo E9 gearbox.
