The Volvo PV51 (and its variants up to PV 57) is a passenger car that was built by Volvo between 1936 and 1945. It replaced the PV 650-659 series .
The car was powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 3670 cm³, which made 86 hp (63 kW). It was usually delivered as a four-door sedan, but there were also convertibles, the bodies of which were supplied by the Stockholm body manufacturer Nordberg , as well as ambulances and delivery vans.
The original PV 51 and PV 52 models existed from 1936 to 1938. In autumn 1938, the modernized PV 53 to PV 57 models appeared.
In detail there were the following models:
- PV 51: standard model. 1936-1938. 1754 pieces.
- PV 51 ch: chassis. 1936-1938. 205 pieces.
- PV 52: luxury model. 1937-1938. 1046 pieces.
- PV 53: standard model. 1938-1945. 1204 pieces.
- PV 54: Standard model with an attached trunk. 1938-1945. 814 pieces.
- PV 55: luxury model. 1938-1945. 286 pieces.
- PV 56: Luxury model with an attached trunk. 1938-1945. 1321 pieces.
- PV 57: chassis. 1938-1945. 275 pieces.
Production continued even during World War II, in which Sweden did not participate. However, the number of units fell due to the lack of material, which was also noticeable in Sweden.
In 1946 this model series was finally replaced by the Volvo PV60 .
