The sedan's world premiere took place in January 2016 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit . The market launch took place in summer 2016, and a plug-in hybrid version followed in November 2016.
At the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2016, Volvo presented the long version S90 Excellence for the Chinese market. It has been on sale there since December 2016. It has also been available in Germany since June 2018, but is only available for the T8 plug-in hybrid version .
In February 2020, Volvo presented a revised version of the series.
Based on the S90 and with the same engines, the Volvo V90 estate version came onto the market in September 2016.
S90 Ambience Concept
The S90 Ambience Concept was presented at Auto China 2018 in Beijing. It is based on the S90 Excellence and has three seats. The passenger seat was exchanged for a footrest for the passenger sitting in the rear. Seven different motifs can be displayed on the headliner.
