history

The first generation of the XC60 is based on the EUCD platform, which is also used by the V70 / XC70 , S60 / V60 , S80 . The XC60 is a compact sport utility vehicle that adopts technical components and, for example, the HDC (Hill Descend Control) descending aid from the related Land Rover Freelander . The car, developed in advance as the XC50 , came onto the market on November 22, 2008 after a near-series study was presented at the Detroit Motor Show in 2007 . The XC60 is manufactured at the Volvo factory in Ghent .

Volvo itself describes the XC60 as a combination of coupé and SUV and wants to turn away from the angular design of the previous models with the new design. The new design line includes, for example, larger and therefore more striking logos and more rounded shapes.

With the XC60, Volvo is introducing the new City Safety technology as standard , which is designed to prevent rear-end collisions at low speeds. The laser-assisted system is active up to a speed of 30 km / h and prepares braking if there is an obstacle six to eight meters in front of the car. If there is no reaction from the driver (pressing the brake pedal), emergency braking is carried out automatically. This way, rear-end collisions can be completely prevented up to a differential speed of 15 km / h; this at least minimizes the impact speed.

Facelift

In mid-2013, the XC60 was given a facelift, in which Volvo changed the headlights, which are now combined into a unit. The chrome surround of the radiator grille, which has also been changed, is no longer necessary. In addition, the design of the front apron and that of the side mirrors have been changed, which now have LED indicators.
