Polestar

Polestar is a subsidiary of the Swedish car manufacturer Volvo Car Corporation . Under the name Polestar Engineered , it functions as an in-brand tuner and has also been established as a private label for hybrid and electric cars since 2017. Polestar's CEO is Thomas Ingenlath . The head office is in Gothenburg, Sweden .

Roots in racing

The company goes back to the racing team founded in 1996 by Jan "Flash" Nilsson as Flash Engineering . Christian Dahl bought the team in 2004 and renamed it Polestar Racing in 2005. After Dahl sold the Polestar Performance Road Car Division and the Polestar brand to Volvo, the team was renamed Cyan Racing in 2015 and continued to operate as an independent racing team.

Volvo tuning department

The tuning department has referred to itself as engineered cars since 2018 . The first model is the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered . Before the models were called z. B. Volvo S60 Polestar and could be recognized by a light blue ("Rebel Blue"), rectangular logo in the radiator. Volvo is still represented in the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC).

Models

After various concept vehicles under the Volvo brand (e.g. Volvo S / V60 Polestar Drive-E ), the first vehicle under the Polestar brand was presented to the public in October 2017 : the Polestar 1 , a 2 + 2 seater with 441 kW (609 PS). Two electric motors (together 160 kW / 218 PS) and a 281 kW (382 PS) two-liter gasoline engine work in the hybrid vehicle. In February 2019, the Polestar 2 was launched as the first purely battery-electric vehicle from the Volvo sub-brand.
