Company history

The company AB Maskinfabriken Rex from Halmstad was founded in 1896 by Axel Nilsson and has been producing bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles ever since . The engines were imported from Zündapp , Villiers and Victoria.

Automobile production began in 1940 and was discontinued in 1946. During the Second World War , electric bicycles were also manufactured, an emergency solution at the time, as combustion engines could no longer be imported due to the war.

After the war, bicycles were mainly manufactured again. The mopeds that have since been sold under the REX brand were manufactured by KTM in Austria and labeled for REX. In 1959 the first folding bike was added and in 1978 the range was expanded to include child seats . In 1997 the production of e-bikes was resumed and since 2004 the production of bicycles with aluminum frames has been relocated to Taiwan .
