history

Lidköpings Mekaniska Verkstad AB (LMV) started producing outdoor lights, park benches, plows, steam tractors and other agricultural machinery in 1875. Mechanical engineering began in 1902 and was strengthened in 1908 when the company became one of the first suppliers to Svenska Kullagerfabriken (SKF), which was founded in 1907 . UVA manufactured slide bearings and gears, including for railways. In 1929 LMV was integrated into SKF.

Locomotive construction

For the construction of the Skara – Kinnekulle – Wenerns järnväg (SKWJ), Lidköpings Mekaniska Verkstad received the order to supply all vehicles, including the locomotives. In 1887 and 1888, a steam locomotive with a C wheel arrangement and a track width of 891 mm was built.

Boat building

In 1879 Lidköpings Mekaniska Verkstad delivered the Munter for the Åsunden , which is still operational today as a museum steamship . In the summer of 1889 the steamship ISA followed for the Lygnern , where it began regular service in 1890. The ship was taken out of service in the 1940s, today a replica is available. LMV later delivered further ships for military use.

Car manufacturing

In 1923 Lidköpings Mekaniska Verkstad AB began producing automobiles. The brand name was Lidköping . In the same year production ended again when the company was taken over. A total of three copies were made.

The only model was a small car . The body offered space for three to four people. A water-cooled four - cylinder engine from CIME with an output of 20  hp provided the drive . The transmission had three gears.
