Lygnern is a narrow lake that lies on the territory of the Swedish municipalities of Kungsbacka and Mark . It stretches from Fjärås to Sätila .
The lake has a size of 33 km², making it the largest lake in Halland , although only half of the area is in Halland. The marginal moraine Fjärås Bräcka dams the lake, 18 kilometers long and 45 meters deep, to a level of 15 meters above sea level .
The lake is drained from Rolfsån to Kungsbackafjorden . There are bathing opportunities in Fjärås and Sätila, as well as in other places around the lake. Fishing is possible in the lake, with perch and trout being caught.
Kungsbacka is supplied with drinking water from Fjärås Bräcka . The raw water from the lake is filtered and mixed with groundwater .
In the past, Statens Järnvägar owned a gravel pit in Fjärås Bräcka. A 2.8 km long single-track railway line led to Fjärås station on the Västkustbana . The line was closed on August 1, 1979.
In the past, the steamship ISA served various moorings on the lake with daily tours . A new electric ship, the ISA af Lygnern , has been operating tourist tours since 2012 .
