The Volvo 460 is a notchback sedan in the 400 series ( 440 /460/ 480 ), which was built by the beginning of 1989 to mid 1996th
From 1989 to 1992 it was initially only available with 1.7-liter gasoline engines , a naturally aspirated engine with carburettor and 59 kW (80 PS) or 66 kW (90 PS), the 57 kW (77 PS) or 64 kW ( 87 hp). It was also available with gasoline injection and 78 kW (106 hp), with a catalytic converter it developed 75 kW (102 hp). There was also a turbocharged engine with 88 kW (120 hp).
After the major facelift in the fall of 1993 , it was available with various gasoline and diesel engines with a displacement from 1.6 to 2.0 liters and with an output of between 60 and 88 kW (82–120 hp). They were built by Renault, but the Renault designs had been technically refined for Volvo with the help of the Porsche development center in Weissach . The most popular was the 460 in the 1.8-i version with 66 kW (90 PS). A five-speed manual transmission as well as a ZF four-speed automatic transmission or an automatic, continuously variable push-belt transmission were available as transmissions.
From autumn 1993 there was also a 1.9-liter turbodiesel engine from Renault with an output of 66 kW (90 hp). A charge air cooler and an oxidation catalytic converter for exhaust gas cleaning are standard here . This engine was only offered with the five-speed manual transmission.
Volvo 460 in the former was produced DAF -Werk Born ( Netherlands ) of Nedcar , which later passed into a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Volvo.
