Rouffach Monastery | The monastery was founded by Franciscans around 1250. In 1564 the monastery was abandoned and only repopulated in 1591 on the initiative of Count Eberhard von Manderscheid-Blankenheim, who was Bailli von Rouffach. During the French Revolution, the monastery was ravaged and secularized in 1791. In 1792 it was used as a barracks, in 1794 as a military hospital and in 1795 as a prison. The buildings stood empty for a short time, then in the 1830s and 1840s private apartments and a boarding school for girls were housed here. In the 1850s, the monastery buildings housed a weaving mill and a dye works, and then a printing works until 1875. Then the cantonal court (later the Tribunal d'Instance) resided in the convent until it was dissolved in 1970. The central 15th century monastery building underwent major changes in the 19th century when it became the courthouse. The facade was upgraded and received a classicist central projection with rich relief decoration. A sandstone balustrade with a coat of arms and a floral pattern completes the projections to the roof.

Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church | The Church of the Assumption is a three-aisled basilica with a transept and Quer-choir. The oldest part is the transept from the 11th century. The nave with three double yokes was built in the 12th century. In the 13th century this was expanded in a Gothic style. On the crossing sits an octagonal crossing tower with a high helmet. The west facade dates from the 14th century and remained unfinished despite new attempts in the 19th century.

Ste-Catherine Church | The church of the Rouffach monastery was built in the 13th century as a three-aisled flat-roofed basilica. The church was given its present form between 1490 and 1505. The central and side aisles are separated by six wide arcades on slender columns. An elongated choir closed on three sides is attached to the nave. The upper arcades are broken through by oculi. The window openings in the side aisles were changed in the 15th century and received the Gothic pointed arches typical of the time. There are buttresses to the north of the church, but the buttresses are hidden under the roof. On one of these pillars there is an outside pulpit with tracery parapet accessible from the inside. From here the priests gave speeches to the citizens of the city gathered in the cemetery. It is the only specimen of its kind in Alsace. A sundial was painted on the outer wall of the south aisle, which can also indicate a lunar eclipse. A roof turret with a bell and curved hood sits in the center of the gable roof. The portal for the laity was on the north side of the church, the brothers came through the portal on the north-west side with basket arches and pear-staff robes .

City fortifications | The Church of the Assumption was surrounded by a first wall in the 11th century. Presumably, however, it was only made of wood. Between 1106 and 1190, the medieval city was finally protected by a stone city wall. In 1380 the Bishop of Strasbourg built a second city wall in front of it to better protect the administrative headquarters of his properties in Alsace. The outer wall is not preserved today and the inner wall was also razed in the 19th century. Remnants of it are preserved in the north and west, including the ruins of the Ristores.

Hall au Blé | The granary was built in the 15th century and modified by Simon Haegli and Glade Badt in 1569. The two-storey plastered building has seven axes on the long side, three of which were designed as doors with segmented and round arches on the ground floor. Striking stepped gables decorate the house. The main entrance to the building, which is now used as a museum, is on the upper floor on a gable side with Gothic and Renaissance windows. The ground floor used to be an open two-aisled hall, the upper floor a large hall.

Hotel de Ville | The old town hall consists of two parallel rectangular buildings, the south gables of which sit on the city wall. The first town hall probably came from the 15th century and forms the core of the western building. While the north side facing the square is designed in the same way, the two buildings on the south side have differently designed gables. The town hall was built in the 16th century (around 1581) by the Ulm master builder Franz Baur in the Renaissance style. In the 17th century the architect Joseph Beisatz modified the building slightly. The gable ends in particular are elaborately designed. The gable is designed as a stepped gable with volutes and acanthus leaves and is crowned by a shell ornament. Both parts of the building are structured with sill cornices.

Residential building | The corner house was built in the 16th century. The Teutonic Order acquired it in 1718 and had the interior redesigned around 1735. Inside there are the barely legible coats of arms of Grand Master Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg, Landkomtur Johann Franz Freiherr von Reinach zu Munzingen and Komtur Hans Sebastian Vogt von Altensommerau, as well as two stonemason's marks and the initials IAR and AAR In 1751 the building was enlarged by the Colmar architects Peter and Johann Caspar Bagnato . After the French Revolution, the Colmar Revolutionary Commissioner Thiébaut Munsch received the building, and from 1810 a muslin factory was housed in the building . In 1850 the building went to the Dominicans from Ribeauvillé , who opened a school here. In 1896 a chapel and another building were built on Rue Raymond Poincaré. The house has a volute gable with sill cornices. The eaves side is designed simply, the window axes slightly asymmetrical. At the corner of the building on the upper floor of the two-storey plastered building there is a bay window with Renaissance motifs. The portal made of light sandstone is kept simple and has a rectangular lunette window.

Residential building | Two-storey plastered building on the eaves in a closed row of houses. The house was built in 1584 by Franz Baur. In the leftmost axis there is a round arch portal, next to it a Renaissance bay window sits enthroned on a rectangular column with a stepped console. The coat of arms fields are no longer legible, but several stonemason's marks have been preserved. In the inner courtyard there is a fountain from 1590. In the 18th century, a wing was added to the courtyard. The Callinet family of organ builders lived here in the 19th century .

Residential building | The three-storey plastered building with a gable roof was built in the 17th century. The windows were changed in the 18th century, and at the beginning of the 20th century the Colmar architect Christian Schoffit changed the building again. The Renaissance portal (1616) on the gable side comes from a neighboring house and is made of yellow sandstone. The door is flanked by mighty consoles beneath niches with shell ornamentation. The garment is adorned with a tooth frieze. Above it sits an entablature with ornamental decorations and severed heads. A straight roof completes this area. Above it sits a scrolled pediment with a coat of arms in the center.

Coming from the German Order | The first branch of the Teutonic Order was founded in 1235 in the lost town of Sundheim south of Rouffach. Since this was attacked several times by armed gangs, it was decided to move the seat of the order within the city walls. In 1572 the building on Rue Claude-Ignace-Callinet was purchased. It was built in the first half of the 16th century and then enlarged and rebuilt several times. In the 18th century, the order sold the building that is now an inn. The elongated three-storey plastered building with half-timbered extensions has a two-storey Renaissance bay window from 1603 in the facade. The coats of arms of the order and Commander Wolff Wilhelm von Weittingen and Georg Wilhelm Thun von Neuchâtel can be found on the lower window sill. The parapet on the upper floor was designed with tracery.

Inn | The old inn was built in 1620 for Erhart Gutschelin. In 1739 the innkeeper Ignace Ambringer ran the post office here for seven years. The mighty three-storey plastered building with a hipped roof has a large gate passage with a round arch. There are three axes on the narrow side, six axes on the long side on the upper floor, and two axes on the second floor. The ground floor has no windows. There is a two-story bay window at the corner of the building. The window parapet on the lower floor shows Renaissance motifs, the window parapet on the upper floor a medallion with a crescent moon held by lions.

Residential building | The quarry sandstone building was built in the first half of the 12th century. With its three high storeys over a square floor plan, it is reminiscent of a tower. The building is still in front of the first city wall and was the seat of a representative of the Strasbourg bishop. The building is currently threatened with collapse. The roof and truss are missing, the northern gable wall has collapsed.

Residential building | The two-storey plastered building was built in 1671 for MA Willeman and Erasmus Bollenbach. The twin windows are coupled under a straight roof. The renaissance portal is formed by fluted columns that support an entablature in which a lunette window sits. At the corner of the building there is a Renaissance-style bay window on the upper floor. The two coats of arms in the window parapet show a lion with a halberd and a man with a tree. The date of the restoration can also be found there: carried out by Louis Keller in 1913.

synagogue | The former synagogue of Rouffach is one of the oldest in Europe and was built around 1290. After the Jewish villagers were expelled in 1338, the building was initially used as a press house and later converted into a residential building. In the 18th century a building with a gate was built on the street. The former synagogue became a secret annexe. The entrance portal moved from the west to the south side, and a Hebrew inscription was preserved. The three-story plastered building can no longer be recognized as a synagogue. The lintel of the old portal with rudiments of a three-pass has been preserved, and niches in the walls of the basement that date from the time of the synagogue can be seen.

Tour des Sorcières | The Hexenturm is the only remaining tower in the former city fortifications. The lower part of the tower was built in the 13th century on a square floor plan, on top of which sits a round tower from the 14th and 16th centuries. In the 18th century, part of the tower burned down and was rebuilt in half-timbered construction. This floor is set back slightly and thus forms a gallery with battlements. Notch-like windows illuminate the interior of the plastered building with corner blocks.
