Black poplar at the castle pond. First beheaded, then completely sawn off Dreieichenhain
50 ° 0 ′ 8.5 ″  N , 8 ° 42 ′ 59.5 ″  E
Natural monument of the Offenbach district since 1992. Approx. Genetically pure black poplar (Populus nigra), standing alone, 25 m high. The crown of the approximately 130-year-old tree was cut in 2012. On August 27, 2016, the poplar, which was infested by a fungus that had not been determined with certainty, was felled due to the alleged lack of stability, as the base of the trunk had "massive rot in the base of the trunk" and was "completely hollow" on the inside. . After the felling, it turned out on site that the trunk foot was very healthy. From the tree there is only an approx. 2 meter long sawn off section of the tree trunk as a "Babbel bench" or "Poplar bench" on the opposite side of the woog in front of the wood mill as a bench. Black poplar 438 008
