List of Seigneurs de Sercq

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Seigneur de Sercq (now common English: Seigneur of Sark ) is the head of the Channel Island Sark . Seigneur is the French word for "Lord". A female head is called Dame de Sercq .

The office of seigneur is hereditary. It can even be sold with the Queen's permission. The seigneur has a suspensive veto right and the right to determine the holder of many offices on the island. See also Sark - Political System

Legislative power is the Chief Pleas, a kind of parliament. Also determined for centuries in its composition by feudalism , it is now completely freely elected after a change in the law approved in 2008. Parallel to this reform process, certain privileges of the seigneur were also questioned and abolished; however, the basic competencies of the office described above have not changed.
