Pierre Carey le Pelley
Pierre Carey le Pelley was the 17th Seigneur von Sark from 1849 to 1852 .
Life
In 1844 he tried hopelessly to look for funds to run his father Ernest le Pelley's silver mine on the island. His father, however, had to pawn the feudal system of Sark for £ 4,000 to John Allaire, a resident privateer , due to financial difficulties . In 1845 the ceiling of the deepest tunnel collapsed. The company was not insured and was closed in 1847. Pierre was unable to maintain the pledge payments and was forced to sell the Seigneur von Sark title to Marie Collings , John Allaire's daughter and heir, for £ 6,000.
