List of German-speaking localities in the Volga Republic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The compilation of a list of places in the Volga Republic with a German-speaking population was made possible by the linguistic research of the Germanist Georg Dinges in the Volga German Republic .

Georg Dinges researched the language islands and dialects of the Russian- Germans in the Volga Republic from 1925 to 1929 . In collaboration with Reich German linguists, he created a language map of the Volga German mother colonies . From this map, the localities with a German-speaking population could be determined. In addition to these so-called German-speaking localities, Dinges also showed the localities of the Volga Republic and the surrounding areas in which Russian, Estonian and Tatar was spoken. Places with the same name appear in the list with Roman numerals. The number of towns listed corresponds to the status around 1925.
