List of Irish chess players

The list of Irish chess players contains chess players who are or were eligible to play for the Irish Chess Union or one of its predecessors ( The Irish Chess Association or Hibernia Chess Association ) and who meet at least one of the following conditions:

General

In close chess, one grandmaster, eight international masters and one international women's champion are eligible to play for the Irish Chess Federation.

In correspondence chess, seven Irish players have earned the title of Honored International Master and three have earned the title of International Master.

The Irish Individual Championship was played 99 times and the Irish Women's Championship 24 times. The record champions are John O'Hanlon and Stephen Brady with nine titles each, while Hilda Chater and Dorren O'Siochru won the women's competition most often with five titles each.

An Irish player had a historic rating above 2499 prior to June 1971.

  • ICCF : Calls the player's highest ICCF title (SIM = Honored International Master, IM = International Master).
  • Year : Name the year the title was awarded.
  • Title : The number of individual Irish championships won.
  • Title (Women) : The number of Irish individual championships won by women.
  • Historical Elo : Calls for players who have neither FIDE nor ICCF titles and have never won an Irish championship the highest historical Elo number achieved before July 1971 , provided that it is at least 2500.
  • Other associations : For players who were sooner or later eligible to play for at least one other association, this indicates these associations with the periods of eligibility to play (if known).
