Philip Short

Philip Michael Short (born  May 15,  1960 in Cork , †  August 31, 2018 in Na Forbacha, County Galway ) was an Irish chess player

He was Irish Champion in 1981, 1986, 1988, 2015 and 2017 and also won the Irish Province of Munster Championship in 1989, 1991 and 1993 and the Connacht Province Championship in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 . He took first place at the Kilkenny Chess Congress in 1977, 1979 and 1980, the Cork Congress in 1994 and the Mulcahy Memorial in 1984, 1991 and 1993.

In 1982 and 1986 he represented his home country at the Chess Olympiad . From 1990, Short held the title of FIDE Master , and at the Irish Championships in 2017, he also achieved an IM standard . He played club chess in the Douglas Chess Club , with which he took part in the European Club Cup in 1993 and 1997 .

Philip Short was married and had two daughters.
