List of Irish champions in chess
The list of Irish champions in chess contains the winners of all Irish individual championships.
General
Before Irish independence, the title was awarded a total of seven times, since then the championship has been held annually with a few exceptions (the tournament was canceled in 1923 and between 1941 and 1945). Record champions are John O'Hanlon and Stephen Brady , who have each won the title nine times.
The women's championship was first held in 1951 and was held annually until 1956. Further events followed in the years 1968 to 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980 and 1982, and the competition has been held annually since 2012. The record champions are Hilda Chater and Dorren O'Siochru with five titles each.
