Third Lithuanian Statute (in Ruthenian) 1588

The Lithuanian Statute had three editors: 1529, 1566 and 1588. They were all written not in the Lithuanian language , which at that time did not have full written status, but in so-called Ruthenian , an East Slavic language that was used as a written language in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania .

The Lithuanian Statute was a modern piece of legislation at the time and a collection of common law in what was then Eastern Europe in the sixteenth century.
