The Literaturhaus Rostock is a cultural center for those interested in literature in Rostock and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which is located in the Peter-Weiss-Haus . The Rostock literature house is run by the non-profit sponsoring association Literaturförderkreis Kuhtor eV . The focus of the work is the promotion of authors and the strengthening of reading skills among children and young people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The friends' association was founded on October 9, 1990 and initially had its headquarters in the Kuhtor until it moved to today's domicile in January 2010.

Offers of the cultural program include a. regular readings, workshops, writing workshops and exhibitions. Encounters with authors, exchanges in the interdisciplinary forum and discussions about literature are intended to strengthen reflection and discussion of literature and other forms of culture in the country.

Literature mediation

Around 50 events are held annually in this area. Including:

  • Readings by authors: the focus here is on the presentation of new German-language literature, but international artists are also presented.
  • PROSANOVA : From April 2003 to 2012, the literature show PROSANOVA presented fresh, young texts in a stylish atmosphere twice a year. The spoken word, the performance of the authors and the musical program formed the framework for this unconventional literary event.
  • Fresh to the press : In order to attract the necessary attention to new authors on the literary market, the Rostock literary house presents four outstanding debuts by German-speaking authors every year.
  • To put it sharply - author portraits from MV : with this series of events, the Literaturhaus introduces notable authors.
  • Initiation of the Rostock Book Liberation Day : once a year the literary house with several hundred books encourages you to swap books at unusual locations in Rostock's city center. With this campaign, the Rostock literature house, in cooperation with the local radio station LOHRO, would like to publicize the bookcrossing campaign in Rostock.
  • Professional Poetry Slam is an annual literary competition. In cooperation with the art spaceship Stubnitz , the Rostock literary house gives young poets the opportunity to face a critical audience. This decides who receives the Steel Bookend award . Nationwide children and youth projects to promote reading skills

With around 400 events a year, this is a project in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that aims to promote reading skills and the feeling of language among children and young people. Readings, workshops and other activities with well-known authors of books for children and young people and other artists are organized for school classes in literary institutions, schools, youth institutions and libraries in the country. Particular attention is paid to early childhood education: children of preschool age are introduced to the world of letters and stories through storytelling mornings, book workshops, reading festivals and picture book cinemas. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the House of Literature initiates a reading day on April 23rd . For this purpose, each participant should bring a book of their choice and read it.

Lesewürmer are reading competitions for elementary schools in Rostock and the surrounding area, which are co-organized by the Literaturhaus in cooperation with " Andere Buchhandlung " and Waldemarhof eV. With this reading promotion campaign the children are to be encouraged to deal with literature and to read from their favorite books.

Promotion of authors / literary promotion of young talent in MV

The Kuhtor Association for the Promotion of Literature has established itself as an important information pool for authors from all over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. With publications, intensive maintenance of contacts and advice, as well as the realization of workshops, writing courses, author meetings and readings, the association makes an important contribution to promoting authors.

At the Poets Seminar of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, ten young authors have the opportunity to communicate about writing experiences in discussions, exercises and workshops and to work on perfecting their literary skills. The seminar will be led by the Schwerin writer Sonja Voß-Scharfenberg and the literary scholar Wolfgang Gabler, project manager of the FAUN author support program (support for authors in the northeast) at the Rostock Literature House . They offer the authors intensive manuscript support and arrange contacts with publishers.

The publication series "Library Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" presents contemporary literature in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. To this end, a larger work by a writer from the country is published every year in this series.

Cultural educational offer
