The Little Falls and Dolgeville Railroad was an American railroad company in New York in Herkimer County . The company, which existed from 1891 to 1913, built a railway line to Dolgeville .

history

From the mid-1830s there were several attempts to connect Brockett's Bridge (later Dolgeville ) to the railway network.

The entrepreneur Alfred Dolge , who worked in this place from 1875, was aware of the importance of a railway to Dolgeville in order to maintain and improve the economy of the place and his company located there. For example, 50 horses were held ready to transport the produce from Dolgeville to Little Falls.

On his initiative and with the support of New York banks, the Little Falls and Dolgeville Railroad was founded on February 2, 1891. Company headquarters was Dolgeville. The construction cost was 250,000 US dollars estimated. Construction work began in May 1891. Due to various difficulties during construction, the completion took until December 14th, 1893. Operations on the railway line began on January 1st, 1894. Once completed, construction costs were approximately $ 575,000. The fund was funded by shares valued at $ 250,000, $ 250,000 in senior mortgage bonds, and $ 75,000 in secondary mortgage bonds.

On May 31, 1899, the company had to file for bankruptcy. As part of the bankruptcy proceedings, the company was re-established on December 24, 1902 under the same name with registered capital of $ 250,000 and mortgages in the same amount. The original first rate mortgage letters were declared invalid. In return, the owners of these mortgage letters received corresponding mortgages from the newly founded company. As compensation for the lost interest, they received shares. The remaining shares were used to settle the reorganization expenses.

In the following period, the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad (NYC & HRR) acquired the majority of the shares and was able to gain control of the company on July 24, 1906. From January 1908 the operation of the Dolgeville and Salisbury Railway from Dolgeville to Salisbury Center took place . The payment was made through shares in this company.

On April 16, 1913, the company was completely merged into NYC & HRR as part of the consolidation of various NYC holdings.
