Little White Lies is the name of a film magazine and website that has been published worldwide by TCO London since 2005 . In 2013, the Guardian called it “the best-designed film magazine on the shelf” ( the best-designed of all currently available film magazines ). The Rotten Tomatoes review database rates the magazine as a “Top Critic”.

History and content of the magazine

Little White Lies was created from the remains of the adventure, sports and lifestyle magazine Adrenalin : When the Adrenalin publisher had to file for bankruptcy, a group of employee friends decided on the graduation project "Little White Lies: Issue Zero" by designer Danny Miller to turn into a full-fledged magazine.

The design of each issue is inspired by the main film discussed in it. This is usually shown in an alienated form on the title page - there is usually a drawing of the respective main actor. The main film also influences the presentation of the rest of the magazine, for example the font, chapter headings and editorial symbols vary depending on the topic of the film discussed as the main topic. The basic structure of the magazine, however, remains constant.

The content is always divided into three main aspects: The title review, then a series of more detailed articles on various topics, but always inspired by the main film, and finally the Reviews Section (the reviews section), in which, in addition to numerous other film reviews, interviews with directors and Main actors of the reviewed and announced films are printed.

For their reviews, the magazine uses a three-part rating system: The categories "Anticipation" ( expectation ), "Enjoyment" ( enjoyment ) and "In Retrospect" ( in retrospect be) each with up provided to five stars complemented by exporting text.

Books

Little White Lies' first book was published in 2014 by Faber and Faber under the title What I Love About Movies (What I love about films; ISBN 978-0-571-31208-5 ). It contains a collection of interview responses from numerous directors (including Quentin Tarantino and Francis Ford Coppola ) and actors (including Ryan Gosling , Kristen Stewart and Helen Mirren ) to the magazine's eponymous standard question: What do you love about movies?

Little White Lies has since published a number of other books, including Making Your Own Movie in 39 Steps and Where's the Dude ?: The Great Movie Spotting Challenge. (Where's the guy? The Big Movie Finding Challenge). The former is a step-by-step guide to filmmaking , the latter a hidden object book based on the UK-based successful children's book series Wo ist Walter ( Where's Wally? ). The reader should go in search of a film character from The Big Lebowski .

Website

Little White Lies has a website that publishes film reviews as well as more detailed articles and a podcast. As usual in the magazine, films are criticized on three temporal levels: Anticipation (expectation), Enjoyment (enjoyment) and In Retrospect (in retrospect).

The website also includes an online store that mainly sells books and board games.

Podcast

Since April 2017 Little White Lies has been broadcasting a podcast entitled Truth & Movies at regular intervals - named after the magazine's motto. The podcast is moderated by a number of different employees of the magazine. New film releases are always discussed here, too, which are first presented and then criticized.
