Where is Walter?
Where is Walter? is a children's book series / comic by the British artist Martin Handford . The books contain a number of large-format, detailed hidden objects on which the figure of the globetrotter Walter can be found. Hundreds of people can be seen in the pictures, for example city scenes, fairs or crowded beaches. Walter always wears glasses, a red and white striped sweater and a bobble hat .
In the British original, in Italy and Spain, Walter Wally is called , in North America Waldo , in France Charlie , in Norway Willy and in Denmark Holger .

The where-is-Walter? -Books have been sold 43 million times in over 33 countries in 22 languages. The first book was published in the UK in 1987.

TV series
DiC Entertainment produced an animated series for the books under the original title Where's Wally? or Where's Waldo? (North America), in Germany under the title Wo ist Walter? A season was produced, which was first broadcast in 1991/1992. The content of the 30-minute programs revolved around Walter, who traveled with his dog through time and space, had many adventures and had to be found again and again by the viewers in search images.
Video games
Some video game adaptations were also published for the books. The game principle was similar to that of the book and usually consists of finding Walter on a picture within a certain period of time. The following video games have been released:

- In Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002) among the Egyptian workers.
- For 2013, a real film version of the material was planned, in which Jim Carrey is to play the title character. The working title is Where's Waldo? . The rights to the children's book are owned by Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment .

- The French version Où est Charlie of the book series was decisive for the graphic designer Joachim Roncin , Parisian art director and music journalist of the Stylist magazine , for the lettering Je suis Charlie (English: I am Charlie), which he used as a show of solidarity for the attack on the employees of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo .
- The satire website Der Postillon published a fabricated news bulletin in April 2014 called Where's Walter? Man from London missing since 1987 .
