Littleborough (Greater Manchester)

Littleborough is a city in the Greater Manchester metropolitan area in England and is part of the Rochdale district . Historically, Littleborough was part of Lancashire . The city is in the southwestern foothills of the Pennines . From 1884 to 1974 Littleborough formed its own municipality ( Littleborough Urban District ). Since then it has been an unparished area in Rochdale.

According to the 2011 census, the Littleborough Lakeside ward had 9,280 residents and Wardle and West Littleborough had 10,397 residents; both wards have an area of ​​approximately 4.2 km².

In Littleborough, the German-Jewish leather company Adler & Oppenheimer built a large tannery for the production of chrome leather (Lancashire Tanning Co., Ltd.) in 1937. A number of Jewish employees and family members of the owner families managed to emigrate to England, Argentina and the USA via the plant in Littleborough.
