Liu Jingsheng
Liu Jingsheng ( Chinese 劉京生 / 刘京生 , Pinyin Liú Jīngshēng ; born January 5, 1954 in Beijing ) is a Chinese dissident , journalist and trade unionist .
He was co-editor of the democratic underground newspaper Tansuo , which he founded with Wei Jingsheng in the late 1970s . Since 1978 he has been involved in the Wall of Democracy movement . After being detained after the Beijing Spring suppression , he was arrested again on May 28, 1992. It was not until 1994 that the Beijing Intermediate People's Court tried it . He was found guilty of "counter-revolutionary agitation and propaganda" and "founding and leading a counter-revolutionary association" and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
In 1998 Liu received the PEN / Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award.
On November 27, 2004, Liu said he was released after serving twelve years in detention for good conduct. His political rights remained restricted for another four years after his release. B. have no contact with foreign journalists. After his release, he resumed working as a bus driver .
The human rights organization Human Rights in China (HRIC) reported that Liu Jingsheng had high blood pressure , an intestinal disease and heart problems, and that medical treatment outside of prison had been repeatedly refused. Because of a lack of cooperation, his hands and feet were handcuffed for 104 days.
