Livia Kohn

Livia Kohn (born March 14, 1956 ) is a religious scholar with a focus on Daoism and professor emeritus at Boston University . She teaches religion and East Asian studies and is fluent in Chinese and Japanese .

Life

Kohn is a native German. She studied at the universities in Göttingen and Bonn . In 1980, Kohn received her doctorate on the life and legend of Ch'en T'uan from Bonn University, and in 1990 she completed her habilitation at Göttingen University. In 1986 and 1987 she worked at the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan . From 1988 to 1991 she taught at the Fairbanks Center for East Asian Studies at Harvard University . From 1991 to 1993 and from 1996 to 1997 she then worked at the Research Institute for Human for Humanistic Studies at the University of Kyoto . As early as 1988, Kohn was a junior professor and later a professor at Boston University. In 2006 she retired.

Livia Kohn is a Daoist and has studied Taijiquan , Qigong and Yoga , among other things . Livia Kohn teaches Daoism, publishes the Journal of Daoist Studies and leads conferences on Daoism.
